Jun Takahashi is one of the most riveting fashion designers of the new millennium. His shows are Paris Fashion Week highlights and due to the pandemic, Undercover was unveiled yesterday to a live audience in Tokyo. As always Takahashi proved that he is a master of creating fashion feelings by addressing the conflicting emotions we have been living with over the past year. Only Takahashi can make clothes from the underconscious, he is in fact the industry’s Sigmund Freud.
Setting the mood?
Takahashi showed men’s and women’s clothes together and the striped pajamas worn with knee-length knitted cardigans looked like the sleeping uniforms of a Swiss boarding school or aptly what we all have been wearing at home not only on weekends.
Undercover’s take on masks?
While our daily life is about mouth masks, Takahashi covered the models’ heads with astronaut gear and lights over the eyes exposing the mouth.
Men’s standout?
The multi color intarsia parkas worn with multi pocket sweat pants and high top sneakers looked like a fresh take on ubiquitous outerwear.
The ballerinas?
Takahashi surprised with a series of leggings and tulle floral embroidered padded jackets in jewel colors like pink, yellow and green to lift the spirit of the collection. The closing look was a beautiful red rose printed and embroidered harlequin outfit.
