Fashion fairy tales require fantasy - Haute Couture
January 25, 2021
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
Certainly, Maike Inga and Feli Rasztar in Chanel Haute Couture. But we know. Beauty does not only give answers, it better asks questions. Just like Haute Couture. Is the craft still relevant? Is it not too decadent? How heavy may the signature of the past weigh in the designs? How much of the future may be seen? In a craft that is always deeply divided between the past and the future, the current Chanel Haute Couture collection wanders these boundaries. The lightness of the fabrics and cuts stand for an emancipative image of women that relieves them of the burden of certain roles – often expressed through fashion. It is precisely this look into the future that our photographer Julia von der Heide chooses, depicting an image of women that stands for the tomorrow. And now that Demna Gvasalia has pronounced Haute Couture as the only credible means to bring fashion forward, the 20’s may see a golden age of it.
