Fashion insiders know that Miuccia Prada has chosen the last day of the four-week show marathon for a good reason. She doesn’t want her shows to look like anyone else’s nor resemble vaguely anything that was shown on the runways the prior weeks. When you have your own factories at your disposal and a great sense of fashion plus edgy Miu Miu collaborator stylists that have ranged from Katie Grand to now Lotta Volkova the formula to surprise seems to work well. Plus, it helps when you are a serious contemporary art aficionada to be able to commission edgy immersive art works in your show space like Sophia Al-Maria who showed a wacky Pulp Fiction style Arab samurai flick. In a season where designers have been speaking about real clothes and so on, there were few surprises like Comme des Garçons. Miu Miu used a familiar formula yesterday to create one. A wild mix and mash up of uniform archetypes as we know them from surfers, sexy secretaries (always in the mix here), security staff, rich college kids, private school denizens, hockey players and Ryder Cup visitors. They all frequented the runway with their blazers, neoprene shorts, badges and polo sweaters or even petticoats. It was Miu Miu, two years ago which started the super short trend in its show where chinos and trenches were cut off and the trend is still everywhere.

Nobody does it better?
The first look telegraphed the mash up message. Rich Milanese chic as in polo neck with open shirt collar sticking out and blue blazer, sexy secretary glasses, Miu Miu logoed office badges, neon green waistbanded shorts and new cable sandals. A riff on this look interspersed the show. Also, Prada and Miu Miu show plenty of the brown toned suede and leather jackets Prada likes to wear herself.

Shorter than short?
Miu Miu certainly likes to partake in the mini craze and added a new garment to the repertoire we would call the curtained mini skirt short.

Footwear fireworks?
From cable sandals, boat shoes, brogues to the chunky heels, Miu Miu is also a shoe show, which sets trends for things to come.
