Is it an accident that this season‘s two best shows were heavily influenced by great art? Miuccia Prada (review here) has her own art foundation and is constantly mining her art collection for her fashion show inspirations with her inclusion of Bernard Buffet prints on tops. Anderson – a one time Prada employee – follows the same template as his most recent Loewe men‘s show-settings felt like a high end gallery opening. Maybe this is the secret of great fashion designers and how they get inspired and feed themselves intellectually through the dynamic art world around them? Anderson showed a strong men‘s collection anchored in black and strict tailoring with pointy dress shoes and new enhanced logo applications on tops. Of course, there were some runway fireworks in silk and mohair jodhpurs which looked like cable knit with mismatched sweaters and fantastic pants which looked like they were worn backwards with ruched pleating. The idea of how we see things in proportion was underlined by the show set which featured a small Susan Sontag book on the floor or a bigger easel with a Peter Hujar print of a woman‘s shoe which also served as the show invite. Anderson’s Loewe rules with clear codes of elegance and play with volume, tasteful branding and the underlining of the leather craftsmanship which is the house DNA.
