Jonathan Anderson always says he wants Loewe to be a culture brand. To make a fashion house part of a cultural conversation you need to have culture yourself in the first place. And Anderson does in spades, he knows the art world inside out, is interested in modern dance, movies and avantgarde theater and music. Not to mention addictive TV shows as he had Brian Cox from Succession in the front row. While watching the Favourite about Queen Anne of England he fell in love with the director Yorgos Lanthimos‘ usage of fisheye. He always draws from his personal discoveries and interactions to make his collections. So, this time the American artist Lynda Benglis created three gigantic fountains in Loewe’s show space on a sunny Saturday morning to help Anderson deliver a study on perspective and scale with his clothes. To further the aspect of how scale can draw a silhouette, he mentioned that he wanted to see everything through a fisheye lens where the torso is small, and the legs are long. Hence, his wonderful collection of a classic men’s wardrobe was dominated by super high-waisted pants and cropped tops and jackets. To add another element, he made it a study in contrast of matte and shine in his basic lineup of blazers, coats, banker shirts, polos, twinsets and jeans.

Fashion is attitude?
It looked like the pants finished in the belly button area of the torso and grew out of the floor as some shoes morphed into trousers. Asking his models to put their hands in the high pockets gave the show a not seen elegance at Loewe.

Of course, there were cardigans where buttons were placed askew and some giant sculpture looking tunics with hyper sized pins in them to stick with Anderson’s mantra of challenging the eye.
