Oh, how great it is to helm the coolest and fastest growing fashion brand in the world and dictate all the trends. Bare mid-riffs, boat shoes, wrong trainers, brown leather, men’s wear and Miu Miu logos everywhere. It’s all been so of the moment at Miu Miu recently and while the season has been all about body enhancing padding and exaggerated shapes Miuccia Prada chose to end fashion week with a history class and some perverse interpretation of the past for now. Think 1940’s glamour paired with the ugliness in hair and makeup that bring to mind war battered women or the look of the spouses of Mad Men in the 50 and 60’s in America who drink cocktails, get tipsy and plan an affair in their shiny, silky slip dresses with one side of their straps hanging down. And the wicked surprise: We can just imagine how Miss Prada and stylist Lotta Volkova were giggling hysterically backstage about using bras with erect nipples. This device was deployed on most tight tops. It was a fun romp with the by now customary real people and actor casting and some models thrown in. French singer Lou Doillon just has the perfect look for this show with her magnetic aura of being the cool girl at the cool party. There were classic gestures of fur stoles held up in most looks or often with pockets, so they served to hold posture and the by now typical Miss Prada archetype of knee-high socks with heels look is just perfect. It was a happy ending to a season that seemed to be in between something. If she continues having fun like that and hopefully her husband is not buying Versace and Jimmy Choo, Miuccia Prada has no rival in this fashion world. Not even close.
