Paris F/W 2024 Highlights Part 6

A personal Miuccia Miu Miu

Not every show can be a hit but then it is never a real flop with Miu Miu either and the Fall/Winter 2024 fashion weeks spanning New York, London, Milan and Paris have seen plenty of them. Ever since Miss Prada brought back the mini skirt and the bare midriff and dare we say Y2K fashion, the Miu Miu shows have been amazing and setting trends making the brand a growth engine in the group while bringing back men’s wear. It’s been officially Miuccia’s personal playground as she now has a sterner Prada design partner in Raf Simons. Whenever she feels like it and is not consumed with a certain idea, Prada throws on a hodgepodge of a show where absolutely everything that she loves is represented. “I decide every morning if I am a 15-year-old girl or a lady about to die” she said jokingly backstage and that summed it all up. Old lady fur ensembles – of course faux shearling – long white nurse shirts, going to the party dresses, weekend in the park walk coats and going to the office secretaries’ outfits. It was all there. “You can choose from anything what you want to be. That is the possibility of fashion. And for me classic pieces never go out of fashion”. So lots of cardigans, simple sweaters, hiking boots and grey suiting. Interestingly though Miuccia is not against branding as every outfit has the Miu Miu name penciled out.

Heavy on the branding

Is it fashion?

At a brand like Miu Miu even basic items like anoraks become fashion because they were all paired with colorfully painted pouf skirts worn with sturdy leather equestrian boots. It’s always a wild styling mix which yields fresh results using the same archetypes of clothing.

One thing is for sure?

No matter how global fashion has gotten, Miuccia Prada rules because ultimately, she always channels an Italian bourgeoisie look in her work. It’s arch-Milanese like risotto with osso buco the way she throws on crystal brooches on suede jackets or accessorizes most looks with long black gloves as if going to la Scala.
