Paris F/W 2024 Highlights Part 5

Sacai’s hybrid synthesis

Sacai has created a rare space in the fashion universe as an avantgarde Japanese brand which can credibly collaborate with streetwear label Carhartt WIP and Haute Joaillerie maker Cartier alike. The quest for novelty and using design to express new shapes is always there. Chitose Abe put on a master class of her hybrid fashion yesterday in a cool space which formerly housed the worldwide Air France office. Her collection took flight with its long silhouette and the fashion item of the season – Sacai‘s boot pants. In a season where every runway features over the knee skintight or outdoorsy mid-thigh women’s boots, Abe cleverly covered hers in fabric, so they looked like three quarter pants. The bare section between the waist and the thigh helped to stack the silhouette to maximum length which Abe used for the introduction of a new one-piece dressing system where she conceptually looked at dresses but let them come out as coats and jackets. When she started fashion, the thesis was to have archetypes of a wardrobe and she formulated her antithesis of hybridization of say a bomber and tailored jacket and with this collection she reached her Hegelian synthesis by creating one piece of clothing which represents all the archetypes in one or as the press notes said maximizing the notion of the hybrid.

The Bretagne factor?

By using classic Brittany caban coats with naval inspired gold buttons which featured anchors she gave her line up a beautiful military formality and regalness which would look good and useful on the beach in Saint-Malo.

Knitting class?

The loose knit sweater dresses using white, red, green, blue and black wool were new in a Sacai lineup and beautifully juxtaposed the very polished allure of the show.
