"Clothes that show strength"

Milan Women’s Fashion Week Highlights F:W 2020 Part 2

We have figured it out. Alessandro Michele is Milan’s best fashion mixer or DJ and Miuccia Prada the best fashion track producer.

Prada was a hit. Season after season, Miuccia Prada manages to stay relevant not by concocting another story layer around her collections but simply by turning out clothes that speak for themselves. Of course, the Rem Koolhaas sets speak volumes and this time her cast of empowered women walked through Fascist architecture looking courtyards. The message this time: Women carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, the weight of Harvey Weinsteins and Donald Trumps. Hence, they have to be strong and prepared in their suiting.

The message?

Post show you can easily spot Miuccia Prada by the throng of newspaper journalists who surround her hanging on every word coming from her lips. “I wanted to make something useful. Clothes that show strength.” Well, it’s that simple. Prada wore a simple crewneck, pants and her obligatory vintage jewelry.

The tailoring?

The grey tweed tailoring worn with colorful shirts and ties was knockout. Prada added oversize puffer men’s jackets, which she belted for maximum power effect. Was it outerwear or classic tailoring? As always, she hit the fine middle, which leaves room for interpretation.

Slicing it up?

The way her skirts were sliced up in fabric strands up to the waist added visual flounce and some frivolity to otherwise serious clothes. It’s not often that Prada brings out a men’s ties to style her looks.

Why Vienna?

Seems like Miuccia Prada is in a Vienna state of mind serving up Strudel with marmalade after the show and referencing the Secessionists on her surfaces with lotus flower prints.
