Bally has a new owner in the American businessman Michael Reinstein who runs the private equity firm Regent. This means that one of the richest families in Germany – the Reimanns – has sold off their last fashion investment and are focusing on non-luxury consumer goods. Regent also owns Escada, and it will be interesting to see what will happen to two of the German-speaking world’s finest luxury brands. Under the creative direction of Simone Bellotti, Bally is becoming relevant again and his latest runway collection underscored his understanding of Bally. He is making the brand Swiss again with a loose focus on the Zurich-based Dada movement for this show which gave the collection unusual forms as oversized shoulders, peplum skirts and high waists. What’s best, Bellotti is a great colorist whose usage of red, green and blue made for an eye-catching show of cool tailoring. He is also leading the trend of black leather pieces with natural shoulder black leather coats and blousons, black leather vests with big zippers as underpinnings in daywear and a sculptural piece with exaggerated waist and shoulders for the evening.
