Milan Men’s Summer 2022 Highlights 4

It’s Armani time

Fashion is in the middle of a serious Giorgio Armani moment. First, there is talk about him selling the brand to John Elkann under his Exor umbrella aligning himself with Italian industrial blue blood. Then he made the uniforms for the Squadra Azzurra, which is igniting the country with three consecutive wins at Euro 2021 and declared one of the favorites of the tournament. Roberto Mancini clad in Emporio Armani at the sideline beams an image of discreet Emporio Armani elegance all over the world’s TV screens. A great sponsorship move. When Armani canceled his women’s show back in February 2020 he became something of a fashion augur and now he is one of the first to have a live catwalk again. And to top it all, he just came out of the hospital after falling in a dark movie theater and had 18 stitches on his left arm – a serious injury that probably made him look for his men’s style office head Pantaleo Dell’Orco’s arm to share the catwalk at the end of his men’s show. Or maybe he just chose this moment to send his succession message to the fashion world. Dell’Orco and Armani’s designs, which always hark back to a sense of deconstructed lightness, are also very much the way men dress post pandemic.

What we loved?

Always in favor of the Nehru collar, Armani sent out a few two tone silk shirts with a new looking closure at the neck by applying two buttons. This gave a formal yet relaxed attitude. Armani also introduced a cool Roman gladiator sandal.

The tailoring?

Armani’s deconstructed American Gigolo jackets are very much a fashion trend at the moment. To see the master make feather light shirt jackets in wide pin stripes in his favorite dark blue made clear that there is still a place for tailoring in the modern men’s wardrobe.
