Giorgio Armani is a wise man but also stubborn. So, in general the man who takes every decision in his company on everything down to the exact placement of a vase in a window in Ginza (ACHTUNG has seen him personally move said vase a few centimeters in a window for a store opening in Tokyo a few years ago) has decided to tackle the next quarter of this millennium with a new mantra. Give a long leash to the design team, not a short one which is normally the case with Mr. Armani. This was hands down the best Emporio Armani show we have seen in a decade, full of ideas from a whole new cast of models to a new roomy and high waisted silhouette and a spot-on opening of outdoor and serious hiking gear which channeled the Moncler, Stone Island and Berghaus moment fashion is having in his very own way. To make this the perfect combination of his own style and design team input, Armani who has always liked the influence of the Orient in his collections added a personal takke that he was wearing over the new year break in his house on Antigua for most of the models looks. It felt like a glorious moment in the 1980’s when the designer became the decisive force in men’s wear when tall handsome hunks marched his minimal runway to a driving electronic soundtrack.

The surface moment?
Armani has always had a penchant for velvet but here it felt completely fresh and new when the beautifully tailored suits which followed the hiking gear opening took center stage. Accepting and reflecting the light in shades of brown and caramel, the mostly double-breasted suiting with high waisted cummerbunds in leather defined this tailored ease moment.

Making a point?
Armani’s finale of brightly colored sweaters with floral embroidery with a demi zippered front worn with slouchy velvet trousers and the model’s hair slicked back severely and a bit of black eye shadow explored a look which would perfectly work in his nightclub on via Manzoni. The address of the store was featured in the middle of the minimal show set.
