One of the privileges of being a fashion editor is attending Prada shows. We have been attending international fashion weeks for nearly two decades for Achtung and yesterday we immediately remembered the Fall/Winter 2012 Prada show from a decade ago with actors Gary Oldham, Tim Roth and Adrien Brody in furry statement coats when we saw Kyle MacLachlan – or better agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks – open the show for winter 2022. Back then Prada wanted to show that it’s a big player and with Tom Holland of Spider man fame in the new ad campaign and a cast involving actors Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum, Damson Idris, Kyle MacLachlan, Tom Mercier, Jaden Michael, Louis Partridge, Ashton Sanders and Filippo Scotti, the company flexed its Hollywood muscle again after Gucci had a show on the walk of fame in Los Angeles recently. To each their own. Prada commissioned Rem Koolhaas’ OMA to create an ultra chic cinema stage with Eames chair seating and bottle green carpeting for the actors and models to present an extremely sober and tailored collection with a focus on button hiding double-breasted coats and jackets often mohair hemmed and elbowed. Goldblum who closed the show mimicking a hurried strut to the audience’s delight – in stark contrast to Gary Oldham who closed the show with an arrogant stance a decade ago – is one of Hollywood’s totem actors with plenty of fashion flair who has been wearing Prada’s banana print shirts in the past just as well as the closing look of a stark black coat and pants including black nylon gloves.

Body of work?
It was the title of the show and surprisingly after nearly two years of designing together, Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada each represent their own body of work in their shows. Simons is present with his oversize bomber jackets and latest obsession with onesies and Prada loves mohair trimmed statement coats.

What we loved?
Simons has been a fan of neon colors like orange and has firmly introduced them in his work for Prada spicing up easy separates looks with neon orange nylon pants combined with a simple sweater. Also, the new hidden button double-breasted tailoring felt extremely new and fresh. All coats and jackets were closed like this.

The only negative surprise?
Miss Prada usually has a keen radar on what trends happen in the fashion world and at the end of the day, the silhouette of cinched waist and big shoulders in 2022 spells out Balenciaga and not Prada.
