C. Paris Company

Watch out, outerwear for fashion moment

Paris is the fashion capital because the shows take place all over the city’s most impressive architecture where the new range of C.P. Company’s Eyes on the City pieces perfectly blend in.

In fact, what is so remarkable about Paris is that things don’t change. A strict zoning law forbids new buildings in the city center so the mushrooming skyscrapers without soul that now dominate London and New York can be avoided. Paris has moved all skyscrapers to the suburb of La Défense where they make for an impressive skyline.

So while other cities build one-location-for-all-shows tents to house the collections, the Paris circuit is marked by using an indoor tennis court in the 16th arrondissement like Céline to showing at the Hôtel de Ville like Thom Browne did for his premiere show in Paris or going to using the top of the Montparnasse office tower as Hood by Air once famously did. The city shows itself off.

C.P. Company has always been a bit of a cult brand, which is about functional men’s wear and Italian fabric research. Its coolness comes from the close connection to underground urban culture. Ever since the company issued the Goggle jacket that has shades integrated into the hood, it’s been the totem of countless selfies from all over the world. Hence, the company created a new online project called Eyes on the City where fans share their photos of extreme urban backgrounds from Cologne to Beijing. As fashion is our cult sport at Achtung Digital, we used the Paris show circuit as our Eyes on the City backdrop.

A Grand Entrance

Easily considered the most iconic building in Paris is the Grand Palais where the Chanel show takes place twice a year. In fact, Chanel is the only brand which rents the entire glass dome structure alone to underline its fashion power. Flanked by the Petit Palais and the impressive Pont Alexandre III this was the perfect backdrop for our shoot. Our model Brian Placide was just mingling within the show-going crowd lensed by Dan Roberts, an Australian based street style ace wearing a camouflage coat-jacket with hoodie and a sweatshirt from C.P. Companycombined with mega-cuff jeans and Raf Simons sneakers. In fact, the Raf Simons sneakers fit the utilitarian chic of C.P. Company so well that they were used throughout the shoot.

Also held at the Grand Palais but using a different entrance was the Moncler show where Giambattista Valli hired a dance company to highlight his collection. The C.P. Company multi-pocket parka and black sweater styled with black pants made for another cool look in our shooting.

As the last day of Paris fashion week is always a big day with big shows, our shoot moved from the Grand Palais along the Seine to the Miu Miu show on Place d’Iéna and ended with Vuitton in the Louvre, another iconic architectural backdrop.
