It is no longer a secret that Issey Miyake puts on more than a fashion show amidst the abundance of defilees that is Paris Fashion Week. But today’s collection by Satoshi Kondo reached new heights. Starting with a performance by dancers and one large layer of fabric which mesmerized with its sheer beauty we saw Kondo yet again carrying on Miyake’s way of thinking about cloth and the wearer’s body. More precisely, how the two interact. This is a master class in pattern making and cutting, probably the best in Paris.

Right from the start, we saw felted, body-double trompe-l’oeil corsets which, compared to last season’s high-gloss versions, felt more natural and more on-brand. But the idea was further developed, expanding to mimic the waistbands of pants, and extending down to mid-thigh. This was followed by the typical pleated goodness, in a lot of blue shades this time around and bouncing vertically in the typical pleated-fabric-manner, before ending in super-light and flowy, yet intensely voluminous silhouettes, some billowing behind the model’s back to extreme proportions. Kondo’s Miyake keeps being one of our most looked-forward-to Paris dates.
