Today’s Marie Adam-Leenaerdt show stood in stark contrast to the re-use and recycling concept we saw last night at Hodakova — although she prefers to call it “reclaimed.” Here, the Belgian designer and LVMH Prize finalist in 2024 stayed away from doing too much or letting heavy conceptualizing take over. She spoke about wanting to simplify her work at a time when over information comes by default onto our screens and into our lives. The concept was rather a no-concept. Frankly, the collection felt like an eclectic mix of dress making directions, not quite the intentional focus on clarity that was communicated — unless, of course, that was exactly the point she wanted to zero in on. At the end of the day, she knows what her clientele wants — and this certainly felt like a highly merchandisable collection of true ready-to-wear pieces. More so than in the past. She offered a wide range of animal prints, the campiest bubblegum-pink Barbie dress, black shiny leather (or pleather), and — our favorites — simply silhouetted dresses that combined all of the above made from deadstock fabrics. There was suiting, lacey numbers, and even a silver cropped lurex puffer jacket.
