Tschö, Udo Kier

The legendary actor from Cologne has passed

Making magazines and doing shoots is an ongoing journey. Often, one forgets the destinations. Some stay with you forever. Our trip to Palm Springs a decade ago to shoot with Udo Kier was one like that. It also marked the redesign of ACHTUNG by Anton Ioukhnovets. He opened the doors to the Villa Aurora in Pacific Palisades for us, he entertained us with his stories about his days as a prop stylist for Rainer Werner Fassbinder (who is still an inspiration in our 50th issue) and he was inspiring and generous. We all learnt a lot on the three shoot days about how show biz works and keeping a stiff upper lip. Udo was a consummate professional with a big heart. This is also the moment to mention that he was introduced to ACHTUNG by Nicolette Krebitz, who brought him to Berlin for her last film A E I O U: A Quick Alphabet of Love. In the name of photographer Jork Weismann and our creative director Anton Ioukhnovets we blow kisses into the sky for our friend Udo. The one and only.
