Celebrating his 90th birthday in a few weeks, he is simply adored for being there as he is one of the best tailors in the industry who was the first designer to build an entire lifestyle empire encompassing hotels, basketball teams and sushi. When he shares the catwalk with two men like he did after his strong Giorgio Armani men’s collection even more attention is paid. He came out with Leo Dell’Orco, right-hand man and head of the men’s style office and his nephew Gianluca Dell’Orco, also from the men’s style office who has been working in the company for 35 years. Is it signaling a succession? Probably not as Mr. Armani still has big plans in 2024 including a trip to Manhattan to unveil his new boutique on Madison Avenue with a women’s show and no less a whole new real estate project with custom Armani apartments on top. Pioneering things is what he likes. And yes, he was the pioneer of the soft suit, which is back in fashion, so he went for a whole new cut and line with his morning show yesterday. He shaved off lapels and collars from his jackets for relaxed ease and invented a new category of super loose cargo pants which hovered over the intimate runway in his Tadao Ando headquarter. Repeating to show the collection in the heart of Milan underneath his apartment like he has been doing for a few years? No way, the man still wants to show he is on the move. Within Milan or on his way to the US and the Big Apple. With 80’s tailoring a major trend on the runways, this is very much an Armani moment.

Armani conjured up a few new versions of classic cargo and patch pocket pants but dramatically increased their volume for newness and had a few big maxi pleat pants split open at the side for elegant motion of the fabric.
