Paris Men’s Highlights F/W 2024 Part 1

Rodeo time at Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton’s Americana set for men’s F/W 2024

Pharrell Williams second men’s collection for the biggest luxury brand in the world was very straight forward. He explored the theme of the Wild West, Americana and of course cowboys. Maybe he also remembers that the first cowboys were in fact not white like Kerby Jean-Raymond reminded us with his Pyer Moss trilogy shows in New York about five years ago. Jean-Raymond’s mission was about giving credit to black people who contributed to American pop culture which they were denied due to the institutional racism that plagues America. Pharrell has managed to rise above all that and uses his top designer platform to send out a mostly black and POC cast to show his leather heavy cowboy tailoring. Maybe shining a spotlight on the Black cowboy was his intention or the references to rodeo outfits were a tongue in cheek joke about how quickly designers fall off the bull these days. Held in a giant tent in the Bois de Boulogne at the Fondation Louis Vuitton built by Frank Gehry the Western theme extended all the way to the catering afterwards with BBQ stations, fried chicken and other American grub. The interpretation of the West was mostly linear and there were little surprises like barn jackets, heavy twill coats, cowboy boots and hats, leather suits reminiscent of a night in Las Vegas and several women’s looks often heavily logoed.

The best?

There were a lot of great trousers in the show. They came as a result when the Western theme was taken further, so cowboy chaps were stitched on and used as construction for trousers with a neat pleat and cleverly placed rivets.

Joy and Pride?

Pharrell was extra proud of the digital Damier print he introduced in his first collection which worked well. Several stars attending the show wore them including the footballer Marco Verratti. Although this was out of the theme, Pharrell snuck in some looks. The man himself took his bow with dark denim pyramid pants, a cowboy hat and a T-Shirt that read “Gears For Futuristic Teenagers” on the back.
