Paris Women’s Fashion Week Highlight S/S 2022 Part 4

Mischievous Morocco and Miuccia

She has put on two fashion shows for Spring/Summer 2022 – one alone and one with Raf Simons. And we found them easily to be the two best shows. Miuccia Prada has too much respect for film and art that she would dare to make her shows about more than fashion. No red carpet, blue screen, green screen or celebrity hosted project with her. Just fashion. Anyway, she has her own art foundation and regularly hosts the Miu Miu Women’s Tales project, most recently during the Venice film festival. Closing the Paris season with a clever Miu Miu show called Basic Instinct, which brought back the 90’s fascination of the cropped top exposing the navel, is just the sort of thing that mischievous Miuccia would come up with. Of course, with a tongue in cheek twist revolving around the basic foundations of a wardrobe – trousers, sweaters, shirts, jackets, all items of everyday dressing. One could just imagine her loud laughter at mixing the screening of Moroccan director Meriem Bennani’s clip about butt expansion via thigh fat transfer and her sexy clothes. Bennani’s sequences were mixed into the show to mesh virtual and real.

What makes this special?

Prada always manages to stay within the basic vocabulary of fashion. This time she took out a sharp scissor and cut ultra short her heavy cotton twill cargo pants into skirts or her tops creating a new elongated silhouette with edges left raw, elements of construction exposed.

Another first?

After Prada collaborated with adidas, Miu Miu unveiled collaboration with New Balance. At the end of the day, Miss Prada knows that the company missed out on the sneaker craze and is now making amends.

The special effects?

While we are not fans of the new Prada shoes, it’s nice to see that in Miu Miu a classic bourgeois staple is elevated to kinky heights like the Penny Loafer detail kitten heel and oh so many black penny loafers.
