Every so often Prada has a show, which leads the way of the fashion pack for a few seasons. After honing their designs skills together, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons channeled the most surprising of all trends: sex. Simons has brought in his signature turtlenecks and body suits but mostly for an asexual, body-hugging effect. Now it was about showing skin. Super short skirts and corset tops with plunging open backs were at the core of the collection, which was shown simultaneously in Milan and Shanghai. Adding his familiar neon colored palette of yellows, oranges and greens and a great multi-ethnic cast of Asian, Black and Caucasian models, this show soared with its subversive soundtrack and complicated maze-like set by Rem Koolhaas.

The surprise effect?

Most of the models wore battered leather motorcycle jackets combined with the short neon colored skirts. While mainly a styling trick of combining two non-familiar elements, it gave the show a fresh punch from the first look. Many of the skirts had a thin silk sash, which trained behind while the models moved up and down the stairs of the set.

The deconstructed corset?

Details of bones – thin slats responsible for maintaining the vertical tension of a corset – were added as decorative elements throughout with generally open lacing. Even cardigans had a lacing closure.

New items?

The bathing suit mini dresses in the middle section of the show worn with black leather belts around the bicep or the breast cup molded knitwear looked sensationally new.

Yet another trend championed?

It’s safe to say that Miuccia and Raf kicked off fashion’s latest craze of matching designers and brands. Whether Gucci’s Alessandro Michele with Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia or now Fendi and Versace, Prada was there first.
