Prada Men F/W 2017
Post Graduate Fashion
Commencement time at Prada, where the cast looked like late 70s Harvard scientist students.
Miuccia Prada has always loved a brainy, bookish nerd. But many of these chaps seemed bound for their first job interviews. Not terribly sure that whether their best college gear would help their careers.
Check Raglan coats; corduroy trenches or tweedy suits finished Western style with leather pocket flaps and shoulders worn on dudes with floppy, curly hair. Though all accessorized with way out there footwear like pink Yeti loafers. Also, we have never seen a bearded biology teacher lookalike in her casting, so a sure sign that Prada is looking for a bit of folky warmth in a cold winter. Wrapped in scarves their Jane Austen reading granny might have sewn for them. Even the gals in this Co-Ed show – wearing fall pre-coll clothes – appeared in corduroy, academic wife, jackets – anchored by fur trimmed and studded sandals, paired ironically, with thick gray widow’s socks.
The menswear show also marks the occasion when Prada introduces its new annual set. In this case, a long series of curvy banquettes – many finished in faux bathroom tiles. Intermittently, there were double and single beds, igniting a post-show Instagram frenzy, as bloggers took it in turn to post and emote on the bedsteads.
While every other runway is catching up with her last groundbreaking athleisure and mountaineering men’s collection, it was in a way good to see that Prada likes to keep it simple every now and then; another proof that she plays in a league of her own. Her backpacks and boots are literally seen on every other runway this week. In a word, Miuccia remains Milan’s single most influential designer.
