Marni S/S 2017
It’s all about the new modular at Marni
With a certain amount of designer glee, Consuelo Castiglioni inserted Velcro strips into half the looks of her spring 2016 show, granting a new form of sartorial independence and shifting shapes.
Hence, volume coats in buttery soft leather or cotton shirts in bold crickets stripes could be expanded from trim silhouettes to bulkier, yet floating, profiles. “The thing about Velcro is you can instantly change the whole shape – of shirts or jackets or pants – by just adjusting a small strap,” said the ladylike designer, taking a gently curving topcoat in hand and explaining her method.Working that theme, Castiglioni also wove mini strips of fabric into waistlines and collars, making so much of the collection easily expandable.
Her prettiest pieces were bold dramatic prints in abstract florals used in cotton tops or nylon blousons. Plants that grew in the wild, yet gentile, imagination of Castiglioni – the source of the subtlest color palette in Milan.
