Diesel Black Gold S/S 2016

The new urban uniform

It has never been easy for a jeans brand to stay relevant. Levi’s and Wrangler are kind of over at the moment. Half the L.A.-based formerly must-have jeans labels are in trouble or grew too fast. The Swedes who tried to reinvent themselves as designers are becoming more and more mediocre in the process. And then there’s the most jeans revolutionary one of them, avuncular Renzo Rosso and Diesel. And yes, we’re still going to the Diesel Black Gold shows. Because Renzo’s jeans couture brand is still relevant. And the guy is hitting 60 soon.

Deep in the heart of the city where the alligators roam, and next spring Diesel Black Gold is what many cool dudes will be wearing to before and after parties. Peg leg pants, all fitted out with horizontal laces, ties, suede strips; jackets expertly enriched with parachute straps and buckles. Multi-pocketed safaris and parkas – ideal for any Apple and Samsung toy you might own. All finished in a palette of ecru, silver, putty and black.

“Urban safari,” nodded designer Andreas Melbostad after the show, which also managed to introduced a whole new product category. A gunslinger’s holster meets fanny pack, which we shall christen the Hipster Holster.
